Preprint and postprint can and should be used when the Published version of an article cannot be published in the repository. This is the case if the article is not from an OA journal. It is therefore not so-called Gold Open Access, but it is so-called Green Open Access. If a postprint can be published, we recommend publishing this version because it is the final version with the peer review comments incorporated. The preprint is the original version from the author without any modifications.
